The talented Norwegian rider has had his ups and downs this season and has shown glimpses of speed, but now he has shared the news that his 2025 MXGP campaign just ended.
Kevin Horgmo has confirmed he will miss the rest of the 2025 motocross season after undergoing surgery on a thumb injury sustained in a cycling accident three weeks ago. The injury was later diagnosed as a ruptured ligament, commonly referred to as “skier’s thumb,” and required surgical intervention to prevent long-term instability.
Initially believed to be a minor dislocation, the injury occurred when the rider lost control of his bike on a slippery road. He self-corrected what he thought was a dislocated thumb but continued to experience pain. Despite medical advice to rest, he attempted to race in Finland, riding with significant discomfort and limited grip in one hand. The injury failed to improve, prompting an MRI that revealed the full extent of the ligament damage.
Due to the critical healing window for such ligament injuries, typically within three weeks, the rider underwent surgery earlier this week. He also revealed he is scheduled to have shoulder surgery in the coming weeks, effectively ending his competitive season.
The shoulder injury dates back to a crash in Ernee, France, during which he dislocated his shoulder for the fifth time. Despite being unable to train properly and managing multiple injuries, he still secured the 2025 French Championship title.
Kevin has re-signed with Honda SR Motoblouz for the 2026 MXGP season, plans to use the remainder of 2025 to fully recover and rebuild for next year. This marks his first season-ending injury since 2016.
He expressed gratitude to his team and supporters and confirmed he will not compete at the upcoming Swedish GP in Uddevalla.
We are wishing Kevin a speedy recovery and a quick return to the MXGP gates.
